Frequently Asked Questions
What box specs does a Sundown 15-inch subwoofer need?
The Sundown SA-15 v.2 requires 3.0 to 3.5 cubic feet net ported, tuned to 30-33 Hz. Use a 6-inch diameter port or dual 4-inch ports to prevent port noise at high output. The X-15 v.3 needs 4.0 to 5.0 cubic feet for competition SPL performance.
Can I run a Sundown 15 in a sealed box?
Yes, but sealed enclosures trade output for sound quality. A sealed SA-15 needs 2.0 to 2.5 cubic feet. Expect a tighter, more accurate response with a higher Qtc (~0.707) but approximately 3-6 dB less output below 40 Hz compared to a properly tuned ported enclosure.
What electrical upgrades do I need for a Sundown 15?
At 750-1500W RMS, you need at minimum: a secondary battery or LTO lithium cell, 1/0 AWG OFC power and ground wire, and a high-output alternator if running over 2000W total system power. Monitor voltage under load — if it drops below 12.5V at the amp, your electrical is the bottleneck.
