Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended ported enclosure for a Sundown SA-12?
The Sundown SA-12 v.2 requires 1.75 to 2.0 cubic feet net for a ported enclosure tuned to 32-35 Hz. Use a 4-inch diameter port with 14-16 inches of length for optimal tuning. MDF construction with internal bracing is recommended for this power level.
What is the difference between the Sundown SA-12 and X-12 subwoofer?
The SA-12 is the daily-driver series rated at 750W RMS with moderate Xmax. The X-12 v.3 is the competition series rated at 1500W RMS with significantly higher linear excursion (Xmax) for SPL builds. The X-12 requires a larger enclosure (2.5-3.0 cubic feet ported) and more amplifier power.
What wire gauge do I need for a Sundown 12-inch subwoofer?
For the SA-12 at 750W RMS, 4 AWG OFC (oxygen-free copper) power wire is sufficient for runs under 15 feet. For the X-12 at 1500W RMS or multiple subs, upgrade to 1/0 AWG OFC. CCA (copper-clad aluminum) wire requires upsizing by two gauges.
