Frequently Asked Questions
What is an LTO battery and why use it for car audio?
LTO (Lithium Titanate Oxide) batteries deliver near-zero internal resistance, meaning virtually no voltage drop under heavy current draw from amplifiers. They offer 20,000+ charge cycles (vs ~500 for AGM), are under-hood safe to 140°F, and recharge in minutes. The tradeoff is lower energy density — LTO cells store less total energy per pound than AGM, so they complement rather than replace your starting battery.
Can I use an LTO battery under the hood?
Yes. LTO chemistry is inherently stable at high temperatures, making it the only lithium chemistry rated for under-hood installation in car audio. XS Power Titan 8 series batteries are specifically designed for under-hood mounting with operating temps from -22°F to 140°F.
Do I need a special charger for an LTO battery?
LTO batteries charge from your vehicle's alternator without a special charger during normal driving. For bench charging, use a charger rated for lithium (not AGM mode). The XS Power HF1215 is recommended for 12V LTO cells. Never use a desulfation or equalization mode — these high-voltage pulses can damage lithium cells.
